Positive Metal Identification
The PMI (Positive Material Identification) division at Kites Inspection Advanced Services is equipped with a team of expert engineers and inspectors, capable of performing precise incoming material inspections. The division offers on-site alloy verification to support both quality control and stock management needs. In addition, Kites Inspection provides comprehensive analysis of both base material (melt) and welds, ensuring accurate assessments essential for maintenance and reliability programs.
Kites Inspection delivers PMI (Positive Material Identification) services to a wide range of clients across various industries. These include metal producers, foundries, metal fabricators, scrap yards, and scrap traders, as well as electric utility companies, fossil and nuclear power plants, the refining and petrochemical industry, construction and engineering firms, and the chemical process industry.
The range of equipment available at Kites Inspection for undertaking Positive Material Identification (PMI) is unparalleled in India. Kites Inspection’s on-site inspection and testing teams have over 12 highly sophisticated Portable Alloy Analyzer Spectrometers which can in-situ non-destructively and accurately measure the chemical composition of materials. Using these spectrometers, Kites Inspection’s engineers can provide elemental identification and quantitative determination regardless of form, size, and shape. No samples need to be cut for PMI. Kites Inspection can also deploy the portable optical emission spectrometer that can detect C, S, P, Mn, and Si. Elements that can be identified using PMI include Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Co, Fe, Cu, Zn, Ni, Se, Nb, and Mo.
The team also performs Positive Material Identification (PMI) to detect carbon content on-site using the ARC Met 8000, a state-of-the-art portable Optical Emission Spectrometer (OES). This advanced analyzer is specifically designed to accurately identify all key elements in metals, with high precision in analyzing light elements such as Carbon (C), Aluminum (Al), Sulfur (S), Phosphorus (P), Magnesium (Mg), and Silicon (Si). It is especially effective for applications requiring precise sorting of low-alloy steels and aluminum. For instance, it is ideal for differentiating between grades such as 316H (with >0.04% C) and 316L (with <0.03% C).
Using portable XRF analyzers, Kites Inspection offers scrap traders in India all the necessary data needed to take fast, informed decisions about material purchases along with the input and speed required to sort large quantities of materials, and hence utilize sales opportunities efficiently. Inspection services team of Kites Inspection supports the recycle and resell scrap traders in enhancing their profit margins by measuring precious metals in electronics – Pt, Ir, Ru, Rh, Pd. Kites Inspection also supports a scrap trader to perform scrap classification service efficiently. From titanium alloys, stainless steel, nickel superalloys, red metals to exotics, Kites Inspection can quickly provide fast, reliable results that the industry demands.
